Too Hot To Handle !!!

Too Hot!!!!!

I was eating empanadas also known in the Virgin Islands as “Pattaes”, mine was filled with fish “a salt fish pattae”. My 18 month old daughter eagerly picked up a piece and placed it her mouth. Quickly she spewed it out and phonetically said “hottt”. Her tongue apparently slightly burnt, experiencing the shock of the hot food looked to me for help. Quickly I came to her rescue, blew on the piece of scolding “pattae” until it was cool enough for her to eat. After it was safe to eat, I gave it back to my daughter she smiled, enjoying all the flavors of this piece of food heaven.

In our lives how often do we consider if our decisions need to be checked by God, to see if they’re “too hot”? Sometimes in our eagerness we jump into different situations quickly and get burnt. The pain experienced by bad decisions burn us with flames of regret, anger or guilt. But here is some wisdom for life, let God blow a fresh wind on your decisions and by the time God is finished, it would be safe to eat. Now what does that mean? Well I am happy you asked? Before we make a decision let us:

  1. Pray: this is our avenue to communicate with God and ourselves.
  2. Weigh the Pros and Cons: in any decision we must ask if it worth it?
  3. Check the Time: Although your decision may have passed the heat test, make sure it’s the right time. Remember timing is everything.

 The Take Away

After I blew on the first piece of “pattae”. My daughter nudged me to blow on each piece of food before she ate. Don’t get so accustom to God that you begin to neglect him in your life’s decision. Like my 18-month-old daughter, let God examine every decision in your life, no matter how safe or good it seems.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (The Message Bible) 5 Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own.6 Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.

Before you make a decision, consider God before you end up getting burnt.
